Short Walk, Little Shops & DQ

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

There are actually quite a few little shops just around the corner from where I am living. The girls who have lived here for a while are used to going to the small convenience store to pick up a missing ingredient or to the pharmacy if necessary.

Two of the girls knocked my door one afternoon and asked me if I wanted to come with them to the “junk store”. I think I gave them a funny look and one of them laughed as the other said,”No, it’s actually not a junk store, but we are calling it that because it is full of literally everything”. The other girl added, “including junk”.

I wasn’t really sure what they were talking about, but I decided to go with them anyways. I figured that it might be a good opportunity to see the area and to pick up a few things from the store

“Ah, here it is,” one of the girls pointed out. The front windows were two stories high. The first floor window was lined with all kinds of thermoses ↓(like these below).  At that moment the store had won me over.

Walking into the store, we grabbed a basket and made our way upstairs to start. I was immediately drawn to a section filled with Arabic style tea and coffee sets. They were so beautiful and I had already made a plan in my mind to go back at some point to choose a set.

My favorite was a set for coffee and tea. There were teacups, saucers, coffee cups and a sugar dish. The clear glass, black band, gold detail and delicately painted roses looked so elegant to me.

I meant to take more pictures of things inside the store, but I preoccupied with looking. Next time I’ll try to show you more ان شاء الله.

↑ This is what I ended up buying in that store.
A decorative white plastic mirror — 16 SAR = $4.27
Two ceramic mugs — 8 SAR = $2.13
Coffee pot (to boil water) — 15 SAR = $4.00
Two AA batters (for my Aerolatte) — 6 SAR = $1.60

Not bad, eh?

After wandering around in that store for a while we walked a couple doors down to Dairy Queen. IT was nice to sit, eat and talk with the girls.

On our way back we stopped into a small convenience store for some snacks and such. I still can’t get over the price of food and drinks here (and also the deliciousness of the products).

It was fun to spend the day with the girls and also great to know that there are some places near enough if we need something.
